The time comes in a business where you decide if the company should continue to restrict itself to the highly specialized custom service product it has become known for; or if it has a niche in the market for other types of small standard accessory product lines while maintaining the same high quality that has become the flagship of CT Music Straps Inc. Our new division, Designer Leatherworks, has grown out of a desire to offer a little of both worlds yet continue to raise the bar of craftsmanship that sets us apart.
This business was formed primarily to service artists in the music industry with high quality, image enhancing leather instrument gear that could hold it’s own alongside fine embellished stage costumes and expensive musical instruments played by professionals. We brought to the table decades of leather crafting experience and a working knowledge of music styles, and connections – the founder being a local musician himself. The first custom straps were designed and handcrafted to order, and our straps for mandolin, guitar, and banjos have graced the stages of the Grande Ole Opry, worn by artists who played at The Library of Congress, various festivals, TV Shows, Coliseums, Concert Venues such as the Sheldon Concert Hall, and Carnegie Hall. Our custom products have traveled across the US and in several countries abroad. Some award winning clients include: Rhonda Vincent, The Isaacs, Lorraine Jordan, Country Duo Joey+Rory, and Norah Jones.
Yet not everyone we encounter plays an instrument, and some clients have expressed interest in high quality leather accessory items of designer status for those who don’t necessarily play a stringed instrument. Founder C.T. Strickland made such items in the 1970s to include wallets, belts, handbags, gun holsters, and pouches of various sorts. So we are in the process of sitting back down to the drawing board and armed with freelance designers, marketing assistants, and skilled crafting knowledge, we plan to design and build some prototypes to test the market with. More on this will be coming to light soon, so check back often for our latest news.
